TrueinchBot

Last updated October 5, 2026

TrueinchBot is how Trueinch reads a product's page when a person asks it to: they paste the link to a sofa or a lamp, and Trueinch shows it in their own home at its true size. It reads that one page, as a link preview does, and never crawls.

What it reads

  • Only a page a person has asked for, by pasting its link. It doesn't follow the page's links, explore a website or keep a list of pages to visit.
  • The page itself, and up to four of the product's photos from it.
  • From these, what the person needs to see the product in their home: its name, its width, depth and height as the page prints them, its price and its photos. Each size is shown to the person with the page's own words, and a link back to the page.

How it asks

  • Its name is on every request: its user agent is Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; TrueinchBot/1.0; +https://trueinch.com/bot/).
  • It asks a website for a page at most once every two seconds, for all of Trueinch together, and for photos at most four times a second. It keeps a page it has read for an hour, so a person reopening it doesn't ask again.
  • It never hides who it is: it doesn't change its name or address, go through proxies, or answer robot checks or CAPTCHAs. A website that refuses it is left alone, and the person is offered another way in: a screenshot of the page.

Asking it not to read your pages

TrueinchBot keeps the rules your robots.txt gives it by name. To ask it not to read any of your pages:

User-agent: TrueinchBot
Disallow: /

Or only some of them, with the paths you name. Your rules for every robot (User-agent: *) are written for crawlers, and TrueinchBot doesn't crawl: like a link preview, it reads a page only when a person asks for it, so it keeps only the rules that name it. It reads your robots.txt at most once a day.

What happens to what it reads

What it reads is kept with the home of the person who asked, for them alone. It isn't published, indexed, sold or used to train AI models.
